The Master has the obligation to provide a safe and healthy working environment for crew and passengers aboard the ship. The organization should conform to the ship’s procedures for health, safety and environmental risks to its personnel as well as risks to others aboard that might arise as a result of the organization’s activities.
The organization should also provide for its personnel:
a) hostile environment training;
b) appropriate personal protective equipment;
c) medical and psychological health awareness training and support;
d) guidelines which address disciplinary offences such as workplace violence, misconduct, alcohol or drug use, sexual harassment or human rights abuse or other practices contrary to human rights obligations.
