Health, Safety & Environment

Black Pearl Maritime Security Management Limited treats the health and safety of its personnel, the crews it protects and the marine environment as inseparable from the delivery of effective security. Our health, safety and environment (HSE) arrangements are integrated into every deployment, consistent with ISO/PAS 28007-1:2015 and supported by our ISO 9001 quality management system.

Working aboard merchant vessels in High Risk Areas exposes personnel to a range of hazards beyond the security threat itself, from the physical risks of life at sea to fatigue, climate and medical emergencies far from shore. We manage these risks deliberately, planning for them before deployment and controlling them throughout the voyage.

Risk assessment

Every deployment begins with a documented risk assessment that considers the vessel, the route, the threat environment and the specific tasks the team will perform. Hazards are identified, the level of risk is evaluated, and control measures are put in place and briefed to the team and, where relevant, to the ship's command. Risk assessments are living documents, reviewed and updated as conditions change during the voyage.

Personal protective equipment

Operators are equipped with personal protective equipment appropriate to their role and the conditions, which may include protective and high-visibility clothing, eye and hearing protection, and other items suited to the maritime working environment. Equipment is inspected, maintained and replaced as required so that it remains fit for purpose.

Fatigue management

Fatigue is a recognised hazard that can erode judgement and reaction at the very moment they matter most. Black Pearl manages watch-keeping rotations and rest to keep operators alert and effective, balancing the demands of continuous vigilance in a High Risk Area against the human need for adequate rest. Team leaders monitor the condition of their personnel and adjust the watch routine where necessary.

Medical provision

All operators hold current first-aid and medical-response competency, and teams carry medical equipment appropriate to the deployment. Pre-deployment planning identifies medical resources aboard, casualty-evacuation considerations and the location of shore-side medical support along the route, so that an injury or illness at sea can be managed promptly and effectively.

Environmental protection at sea

Black Pearl is committed to protecting the marine environment and to operating in full support of the vessel's own environmental obligations. Our teams work within the ship's established procedures and respect the marine setting in which we operate.

Waste and pollution prevention

We minimise the waste our operations generate and manage it responsibly, handling and disposing of materials in accordance with the vessel's waste-management arrangements and applicable regulations. Operators are briefed never to discharge waste or any other material into the sea, and to prevent pollution at source. Spent materials associated with our equipment are accounted for and removed for proper disposal ashore.

By embedding sound HSE practice into planning, deployment and review, Black Pearl protects the wellbeing of everyone aboard and demonstrates genuine care for the marine environment in which we work.
